Coronavirus Cases In North West Leicestershire Almost Double In Last Seven Days

North West Leicestershire has seen coronavirus case rates rise by a massive 92 per cent over the past seven days.

It means the district's cases per 100,000 people is now 400.5.

And with 415 new cases bringing the area's total since the pandemic began to 3,574 with the seven-day rate almost doubling.

There were 53 new cases recorded in North West Leicestershire on Friday.

More than 730 new coronavirus cases were confirmed across the city and county on Friday.

The majority were in the city of Leicester where there were 370 cases recorded. Across the county there were 366 infections identified.

Broken down to district and borough level there were 82 cases added to Charnwood's rolling toll and 65 to Blaby's.

More than 50 cases were reported in both Hinckley and Bosworth – 54, and North West Leicestershire.

Some 46 cases were confirmed in Harborough and 45 in Oadby and Wigston. There were 21 in Melton.

Public health bosses raised concern today over the rapid increase in infection rates in the city and all areas of the county.

In the last seven days, rates in Charnwood have risen by a massive 92 per cent.

Elsewhere rates increased as follows. Blaby +55 per cent, Charnwood + per cent, Harborough +84 per cent, Hinckley & Bosworth +67 per cent, Melton +20 per cent, North West Leicestershire +92 per cent, Oadby & Wigston +56 per cent, Leicester +63 per cent.

The new cases, updated on Friday at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

•Leicester: 24,429

•Blaby: 4,681

•Charnwood: 8,471

•Harborough: 3,326

•Hinckley and Bosworth: 3,833

•Melton: 1,800

•North West Leicestershire: 3,574

•Oadby and Wigston: 3,624

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:

•Leicester: 514.6 cases per 100,000 (1,823 cases confirmed in the last seven days)

•Blaby: 406.8 cases per 100,000 (413)

•Charnwood: 328.8 cases per 100,000 (611)

•Harborough: 452 cases per 100,000 (424)

•Hinckley and Bosworth: 345.6 cases per 100,000 (391)

•Melton: 314.4 cases per 100,000 (161)

•North West Leicestershire: 400.5 cases per 100,000 (415)

•Oadby and Wigston: 563 cases per 100,000 (321)
