Hugglescote, Donington Le Heath and Coalville Community Hub has launched a 'Send A Smile' scheme for Christmas this year.

The group wants to ensure as many local veterans and elderly residents as possible get a gift over the festive period.

Organisers are looking for items such as unisex hats, gloves, bedsocks, hot water bottles, Christmas puddings, biscuits or crossword books.

The group has asked local schools to participate. And in among the schools' gifts, they will be adding a letter to a resident which in turn hopefully will set up a local pen pal scheme.

Along side this, local child minders have offered to join in as well and they will be adding a painting into their gift boxes.

A message on Facebook adds: "If you would like to get involved please let us know, you don't have to do a full gift box as we are looking for individual gifts that we can add to the boxes, the list is endless.

"Please find here a list of drop off areas, They are, the George and Dragon in Coalville; The Birch Tree at Bardon; Elite Gaming Lounge in Coalville; Alma's Vintage Sandwich and Cake Shop, in High Street, Coalville; Coalville Morrisons."
