Coalville's Marlene Reid Centre Community Action's Kool Kidz half-term holiday club has again been hailed a success thanks to support from children's charity Oakland Foundation.

Open to children from 7 to 11 years of age, with older siblings also included, the children took part in a range of fun activities including crafting, spray can art, bingo, face painting and pancake making, team cooking sessions, African drumming, a circus skills workshop as well as an enrichment trip to a local attraction.

MRC Community Action's Paul Fagan commented: "We were delighted to once again secure half term funding from Oakland Foundation, and we all enjoyed every minute of the week.

"The children loved the different activities as well as the pancakes provided by our super mini chefs, using skills they didn't even know they had."

Running over four days, the children enjoyed a buffet-style breakfast and home-cooked hot meal at each session, with every group of four children supported by an adult lead to ensure inclusivity and full activity engagement for all taking part.

Paul added: "The children tried the royal and ancient game of golf thanks to the amazing Rich Hughes and the team at The Golf Centre in Coalville with some of them already planning a return trip, and the fabulous Tommy Slinger from local street art collective Optionone led an intergalactic art installation which will be coming soon to our community hall.

"We can't wait to see it in place as it's going to be quite literally out of this world!

"But we couldn't have done any of it without the support of our wonderful sponsors, Oakland Foundation, it was simply amazing, thank you."

The Oakland Foundation charity supports children under the age of 16 and their families through initiatives based around education, health and nutrition, and sport, with their aim to ensure children, irrespective of social background or physical ability, can participate.

Oakland Foundation Donations Coordinator Debbie Roberts commented: "It's always a pleasure to be able to offer our support to the MRC team and to help them deliver such great projects for children and the wider community."
