Coalville's Christmas celebrations are expected to be confirmed at a council meeting next week.

The Coalville Special Expenses Working Party meets next Tuesday and will be discussing future events as well as reporting on this year's.

November 25 has been set aside for the annual Christmas in Coalville day.

This is planned to be a day of Christmas festivities in Coalville town centre.

Full details have still be confirmed, but the preferred venues are Belvoir Shopping Centre and Needham's Walk car park

However these are still subject to receiving permission from shopping centre owners Gylo.

Alternative locations are being considered, these include London Road car park or Snibston Colliery Park

Last year's event centred on Marlborough Square before the switching on of the town's Christmas lights.

Work on the redevelopment of Marlborough Square will be under way by then, but North West Leicestershire District Council has already said work will be paused for Christmas in Coalville.

The meeting is also due to confirm the town centre Christmas decorations, comprising of lamp post mounted decorations, bespoke decorations on Memorial Clock Tower, pea lights in trees - High Street and Memorial Square - and one large Christmas tree in Memorial Square.

But the agenda for next week's meeting says that talks are ongoing regarding the siting of the funfair for the Christmas in Coalville day.

It adds that Gylo may also have to be approached for permission to stage the fair elsewhere in the town.

The agenda reads says: "Funfairhires Ltd have been contacted regarding locating the funfair in either London Road car park or Whitwick Road car park - the old council offices, they have concerns regarding the distance of the funfair from the proposed locations of the main event - Belvoir Shopping Centre and Needham's Walk - and predicted low footfall.

"It is highly unlikely that they will attend the event if these are the only location options.

"Alternative locations such as Bridge Road car park (Gylo) and Old Market Hall car park - requires Gylo permission for alternative use - are not suitable as they are being prioritised for customer car parking, also permission to use these areas is required from Gylo."
