Coalville Town have turned to a former club captain to manage their new-look squad next season.

The Ravens will now play in the United Counties League after resigning from the Southern League last month following chairman Glyn Rennocks' decision to stand down.

It was announced on Monday that the men's senior team will continue, but in step 6 of non-league football following a busy 72 hours for club officials Steve Cartwright and Wayne McDermott.

Now that Coalville have secured a place in the UCL, the work has already begun to bring in players and a new manager ahead of the August kick-off.

The Ravens have today (Tuesday) announced that the manager will be club legend Ash Brown, with coaches Jason Weafer and David Clay.

The Coalville Town website said: "Following the recent announcement that the club will be playing in the United Counties League in the 2024/25 season it was felt that club needed someone with coaching experience, but also someone who had a strong affinity with the club.

"Ash fits that description perfectly having made over 500 appearances for the Ravens and who was captain when the team played Whitley Bay in the 2011 FA Vase final at Wembley Stadium. He also captained the side when they won the Midland Alliance league title in 2011."

Ash told the website: "Coalville Town is a club massively close to my heart, I know what it means to the supporters so I will be looking to build a side capable of pushing on and challenging whilst playing exciting attacking football.

"We will be looking to have a good mix of youth and experience, and bridging the gap between the junior teams and the first team offering a clear pathway for players to develop."

Weafer is also an ex-Raven, having featured for the club in the Midland Alliance in the early 2000s, whilst Clay is a vastly experienced coach with good local knowledge having previously managed Shepshed Dynamo.
