Coalville Town Football Club has announced it has secured funding from the Football Foundation for a 3G pitch at its Owen Street site.

The club has revealed on its official website that work will start in the next few weeks.

And it says the development is 'great news' for the 900 junior, girls youth and inclusive players at the club - and that it will become a 'real football hub'.

The club said: "The bid and fundraising has been led by the junior, youth, girls and inclusive section.

"This, with the previous successful planning application, means building of the 3G artificial grass pitch will start in the next few weeks.

"The pitch will be on the car park side of the ground where the current development pitch is.

"For clarity, the main stadium pitch will remain as a grass surface.

"The pitch will also be used by our men's and women's first teams for training, making it a real Coalville Town football hub."

Coalville Town also makes it clear that the facilities will not just be exclusive to football.

The club added: "The community of North West Leicestershire will also benefit from the £1million plus investment as Owen Street is transformed into a sports hub open severn days a week.

"It will also create a number of full-time jobs.

"Coalville Rugby Club and other football teams/groups will also be using the pitch with some exciting new opportunities becoming available for local people.

"Coalville Town would like to thank everyone who has helped make this happen, Leicestershire and Rutland County FA, North West Leicestershire District Council, Bardon Hill Community Fund and the many organisations and groups who are part of the wider application.

"The club has been working on this project for nearly four years and looks forward to seeing it become a reality in the near future.

"Whilst the building is ongoing the parking capacity at Owen Street will be reduced, so we ask for your patience and support during the next few months."
