The Co-op has confirmed that its store in Bridge Street, Coalville, is to close - with a new site opening in Hugglescote.
A statement says that a 'very difficult' decision has been taken, based on a 'decline in sales'.
The Co-op does not say when the closure will happen - although mid-March is likelu = but adds that all employees are likely to transfer to the new Hugglescote store.
A spokesperson from Central England Co-operative issued a statement to Coalville Nub News on Thursday which read: "The Society can confirm it is closing its food store in Bridge Road, Coalville.
"It is with great regret that the Society has taken this very difficult decision following a full review of the trading performance of the store, which has indicated a decline in sales with increasing losses projected in future years.
"Like other retailers, we are constantly adapting to retail challenges at a local level and this decision is necessary to protect the long-term future and growth of Central England Co-op as a whole.
"This in no way reflects upon the excellent work of the colleagues at Bridge Road store and we would like to thank them for their commitment and dedication.
"The Society is now in consultation with colleagues affected by the closure. Where possible we aim to offer colleagues opportunities to be redeployed into other business areas.
"Therefore all colleagues will transfer either to our brand new food store in Hugglescote which opens this spring, or to other nearby stores.
"A date for the proposed closure has yet to be confirmed."
