A new axe throwing experience is coming to Coalville.

The team behind the town's popular escape rooms, Escape Coalville, are joining forces with professional axe thrower, Mark Axford-Whitaker - more commonly known by his axe throwing name MAWS.

Located at the Marlene Reid Centre, Axecape Coalville will join the line up of escape room games already on offer at the venue.

The experience will allow up to eight people at a time to participate in an instructor-led session.

But for anyone wanting to know what axe throwing is, it is exactly what you think according to the organisers - throwing axes at wooden targets and getting them to stick.

Led by expert coaches, each 90-minute session will get people throwing specialist axes in one of Axecape's dedicated lanes.

Adam Goodger, co-owner and creative director of Escape Coalville, said: "The sport of axe throwing has taken the UK by storm.

"Our 90-minute experience is led by an axe-throwing coach.

"They will take you through the health and safety aspects of the sport and then teach and help you to improve your throwing technique.

"They will stay with you throughout your time.

"If there is time, they may even help you learn trick shots as well as play some games.

"Each session is different and tailored to your group's needs."

The venue will operate a 'social throw' structure, which will see groups come together to experience the activity.

Mark added: "Axe throwing is a very social sport.

"Our lane can hold up to eight people which allows two of them to throw at the same time.

"Due to this, you may find that other people will be part of the same session as yourselves.

"Our throwing coach will make sure you have ample opportunity to throw and improve your technique.

"On top of this, we will also be offering club nights, where members can come spend time honing their skills and practising for upcoming events."

Axecape Coalville will be opening on Thursday (March 28) and priced at £22 per person.

The organisers say details on how to become a member will be available at a later date.
