Taxi firms in Coalville and North West Leicestershire have been praised for offering people free taxi rides to the vaccination centre in Measham.

For some people, the Measham Leisure Centre venue is not easy to get to without transport.

And the taxi companies' gesture was recognised at this week's North West Leicestershire District Council full council meeting.

Cllr Michael Wyatt asked the Leader of the council, Cllr Richard Blunt, to join him in thanking taxi firms who have gone 'above and beyond' to help residents to travel to Measham for their vaccination for free.

Speaking at the meeting Cllr Wyatt said: "I would like to add my thanks to the Cllr Blunt's comments concerning the free taxi service for residents to the Covid vaccination centre in Measham.

"A number of local residents have expressed their praise to several taxi firms who provided them with a door to door service to Measham which in one case would have cost them £36.

"Providing this free service is above and beyond what is expected of anyone, this has made the stress and worry of having the vaccine less daunting.

"Local residents who do not have transport or do not have the funds to pay for a taxi, are extremely grateful, and they would like this council to publicly acknowledge this outstanding and valuable service these taxi drivers and firms have offered.

"Can I ask The leader if the council can put a thank you on behalf of all councillors to all taxi drivers on our social media sites?"

The leader responded and agreed to Cllr Wyatt's request.
