Coalville's Long Lane Surgery has issued an update on Covid vaccines for youngsters who may fall into certain vulnerable groups.

The surgery says a number of 12-18 year olds have been contacted to book an appointment at the Vaccination Hub at Measham Leisure Centre.

But they are keen to hear from anyone else whose children could fit the criteria.

Long Lane posted on their Facebook page and said: "A small number of children and young people with underlying chronic conditions are at increased risk of serious COVID-19 disease.

"Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation advises that children and young people aged 12 years and over with specific underlying health conditions that put them at risk of serious COVID- 19, should be offered COVID-19 vaccination.

"The specific health conditions currently advised to be vaccinated are those with neurological co-morbidities in the 12year + group.

"Young people aged 16 to 17 years of age who are at higher risk of serious COVID- 19, ie, are in the clinically extremely vulnerable group, should continue to be offered COVID-19 vaccination.

"JCVI also advises that children and young people aged 12 years and over who are household contacts of persons (adults or children) who are immunosuppressed should be offered COVID-19 vaccination on the understanding that the main benefits from vaccination are related to the potential for indirect protection of their household contact who is immunosuppressed.

"Until more data becomes available, JCVI does not currently advise routine universal vaccination of children and young people less than 18 years of age.

"All 12-18yr olds who are coded on their GP records as meeting the above criteria have been contacted by SMS to book an appointment at the Measham Hub for a Pfzier vaccination.

"If you haven't been contacted and feel you or your child fit the above criteria, please contact the surgery."
