Students at Coalville's Castle Rock School are to take part in a County Lines workshop with Leicestershire Police next week.
County Lines is a term used to describe criminal activity where drug dealers in major cities establish networks for the supply and sale of drugs to users in towns and rural areas.
This is done using other people - often those who are young or otherwise vulnerable - to carry, store, and sell the drugs.
Leicestershire Police want to raise awareness of the dangers of County Lines are and the impact they have on communities, particularly encouraging education around knowing the signs that people should be looking out for and how to report to the police."
In a letter to parents, Miss Aimee Kinder, Assistant Headteacher, said: "The safety and well-being of our students is of paramount importance both in school and in the local community.
"Therefore, we would like to announce, as part of an initiative offered by the Local Authority and Leicestershire Police, The Castle Rock School has the opportunity to take part in a workshop on the topic of 'County Lines'.
"Workshops for our students will run during lesson 4, 12.30-1.30pm, on Wednesday 13th October.
"We would like our students to be vigilant to the dangers and feel confident enough to recognise the signs of exploitation and manipulation so that they can talk to a member of staff if they are worried about themselves or a friend.
"All sessions will be delivered virtually by Leicestershire Police, with your child's teacher present to answer any questions."
