A team of Coalville opticians are aiming to collectively cover the equivalent distance of the Atlantic ocean in just three months.
Specsavers in the Belvoir Shopping Centre are putting one foot in front of the other to walk, run or cycle a whopping 2,880 miles before June 30.
Travelling the equivalent route from Ambrose Light in New York to Lizard Point in Cornwall, the team are hoping to raise £1,500 for stillbirth and neonatal death charity, Sands.
"There's no doubt that we have set a demanding challenge for ourselves, but that doesn't mean it's impossible," said Specsavers Coalville store director Shailan Ruparelia.
"I have complete faith that we'll be able to smash this goal and help raise funds for a wonderful charity whose work is essential to those around the country."
In two days, the team has already raised more than £300 for the charity. To donate visit HERE.
Sands is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK. Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.
Under current government guidance, Specsavers stores remain open for eye and hearing needs during lockdown.
In line with NHS recommendations, Specsavers colleagues use personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the stores, wear face masks and other PPE during tests, and all testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.
All appointments need to be made in advance and there are also be restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store at any one time, strict social distancing rules and, where possible, card instead of cash payments.
