Coalville businesses are being encouraged to sign up to a best-dressed window competition - as well as a brandnew light inspired contest to illuminate the town for Christmas.

North West Leicestershire District Council is offering shop owners in the town the opportunity to take part in three competitions for this year's festive period.

Dress your shop window in a winter, festive theme to be in with a chance of winning the coveted public vote or Chairman's choice award.

The council says this is a chance to show off your creative flair, entice shoppers to your store and receive a trophy to be displayed all year round.

New for 2023, shops and businesses can also decorate shop windows with lighting displays and illuminations to spread some festive cheer along the High Street and in the town centre - and have a chance of winning the public vote.

The council said: "We understand times are tough so it's up to you how you do it and how long you want to light up your store for. In this case, bigger won't necessarily mean better."

You can also become part of the Where's The Elf hunt.

Families can try to find elves dotted in different shops in the town centre.

Shoppers will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win shop local vouchers.

Inspired by The Elf on the Shelf, shops and businesses can opt to display an elf in shop windows for shoppers to find - the council will supply the elf.

Businesses can take part in all three competitions, or just one, by emailing their interest to [email protected] by November 13. All windows need to be ready by November 24.

You can also book a stall at Christmas in Coalville.

Local business owners are being invited also come along to this year's town centre event on Saturday, November 25.

To request a stall, email [email protected] by October 31.

Cllr Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "We're really pleased to announce the return of our Christmas competitions for local businesses to take part in.

"The town was decorated so well last Christmas, with shop owners getting in the festive spirit and entering the competition.

"With the return of the best dressed window competition, as well as the brand-new Coalville Illuminations, Coalville will be looking especially festive and welcoming to shoppers."
