A gymnastics team from Broom Leys Primary School in Coalville achieved victory in the recent Rise Schools Competition.

The school represented North West Leicestershire and competed against the best young gymnasts from each of the 10 districts of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Broom Leys had three teams taking part in the county finals, Level One, Level Two and Level Four.

The Level One squad won their category overall, while Level Two and Level Four placed third and fourth respectively.

Held at Oakham Gymnastics Club and organised by British Gymnastics, the competition provided children with the opportunity to compete at four different levels across various disciplines.

These included core skills, which consist of floor routines, small apparatus (with a choice of ball, hoop, rope or ribbon) and large apparatus, where competitors perform a vault, bench or bar routine. Gymnasts were awarded points for each skill they performed.

This is the second successive year Broom Leys has represented North West Leicestershire in the county finals, with the school's Level One and Level Four squads participating in the same event in 2024.

The continued success of all the school's gymnastics teams is attributed to the hard work and dedication of the pupils. Under the guidance of Sports Coach Leah Smith, the children spend many hours practising and preparing their routines, both during lunchtime and as part of after-school clubs.

Broom Leys Headteacher Robert Prior said: "We are incredibly proud of our gymnasts for their dedication, hard work and outstanding achievements at both the regional and county levels.

"Their success is a testament to their perseverance and the fantastic support from our Sports Coach, Miss Smith, and the wider school community.

"This is another special moment for Broom Leys, and we look forward to seeing our pupils continue to excel in sport."
