Coalville school submits plans for two-storey classroom block
Newbridge High School in Coalville has submitted plans for a two-storey modular classroom block.
A planning application has been made to North West Leicestershire District Council for the building at Forest Road.
A Heritage Statement prepared for the council application outlines the plans for the new section.
It reads: "The proposed new development has been designed with sensitivity to the neighbouring larger elements of the school - appropriately located and scaled within the site.
"The proposed layout provides additional new teaching areas for the school.
"The building will be located on the existing tarmac play surface to the East of the main school building.
"The hard play surface lost because of the new building has been re-sited.
"The building has been designed to sit as low as possible within the existing levels to minimise the impact.
"The design is contemporary whilst sympathetic to the surrounding existing buildings.
"The proposed external walls will be a mixture of rainscreen cladding and facing brickwork.
"The scale and proportions of the building match the recently installed teaching block which was erected in 2020.
"The siting of the building has been selected due to constraints within the school site.
"Existing and proposed external playground & sports areas are restricted for development by Sport England and, following a review of the area, the proposed location is the only viable location for the additional accommodation.
"The new building location does utilise part of the existing hard play surface, however this will be relocated to allow for the siting of the new block.
"The proposed building will provide balance to the site when viewed from the surrounding areas whilst remaining subservient to the historic building.
"It will enhance the setting and provide consistency across the site, replicating the newly installed teaching block."
