Coalville residents set for no increase in council tax payments - after new plan is put forward by district councillors

By Graham Hill 26th Feb 2021

Two district councillors have proposed a plan which would see no council tax increases for Coalville residents this year.

Conservative Councillors in Coalville, Cllr Elliott Allman and Cllr Alex Bridgen were concerned at the decision to increase the precept for the town by eight per cent.

Now next week's full council meeting of North West Leicestershire District Council is set to agree there will be no council tax increases for residents.

Council tax in Coalville was set to rise, but, to stop this, the council will use reserves instead to stay at the current rate.

Cllr Allman told Coalville Nub News: "Many people have been hit hard this year with Covid-19 and the restraints this brings.

"As a result of our lobbying, it's proposed that there will be no increase this year and that there will be a full review of the local precept for Coalville.

"This is what is needed at a time where people have been hit hard during challenging times, this is the least we can do."

Cllr Bridgen added: "With all the pressures on people's finances at the moment, I'm glad we can do our role as elected members by supporting local people."
