  • Campaign to Re-Open the Ivanhoe Line met with council officials in Coalville
  • Feasibility study will determine how achievable the plans are
  • Plan is to revive Burton to Leicester line with new stations in towns along the line

The first steps have been taken to see if a re-opened railway line for Coalville and the surrounding area will be possible.

A feasibility study for the proposed Ivanhoe Line between Burton and Leicester is being set up in conjunction with local campaingers.

The Campaign to Re-Open the Ivanhoe Line was created earlier this year and has the support of local MPs.

And the feasibility study committee met for the first time last Thursday in Coalville.

It was attended by CRIL members and representatives of the supporting councils resulting.

CRIL say the meeting resulted in a constructive discussion.

But it has been made clear that this is just the start of a lengthy process and a follow-up meeting has been planned for the New Year.

The feasibility study has been set up to determine whether the plan is realistic and achievable.

The line was closed as part of the 1960s Beeching cuts but was kept going for freight trains.

There are plans to open new stations with the area expanding and new housing and business coming to areas along the line.

Amazon, who have a depot at Coalville, say they are interested in developments regarding the line reopening.

CRIL offered sincere thanks to North West Leicestershire District Council for kindly allowing use of their meeting rooms for this purpose.
