Coalville residents have been invited to have their say on the North West Leicestershire Local Plan review.

The Local Plan, which sets out a strategy for providing the homes, jobs and infrastructure needed in the district, is currently being reviewed and the district council says local people can give their feedback about what the plan should include.

  • How can the district move towards zero carbon?
  • Should there be a new town or village near the airport?

These are among the key questions people are being asked as part of the Plan's review.

The current plan runs up until 2031, but Local Plans have to be reviewed every five years by law, and North West Leicestershire District Council is currently doing just that.

Over the last two years the council's Local Plan Committee, which is overseeing the review, has given feedback on a range of subjects - now the council wants to hear what the public thinks before any final decisions.

The consultation can be found HERE.

By taking part, people will be asked:

  • What should the Local Plan be looking to achieve?
  • How much housing and employment development should be planned for, and where might it go?
  • Should there be a new settlement near to East Midlands Airport?
  • How can we ensure that new development contributes towards making the district zero carbon?
  • How can new development contribute towards improving the health and wellbeing of residents?

The consultation is live until February 28 and can be completed online HERE.

Councillor Keith Merrie, MBE, Portfolio Holder for Planning at NWLDC, said: "The Local Plan guides how the council supports the district to grow in a sustainable manner that is suitable for the people who live and work here.

"To grow in the best way, we need the right infrastructure, the right employment opportunities and the right number of homes available, and it's important that local people have a say in how these things take shape."
