Residents in the Coalville area are being invited to celebrate the completion of the recently regenerated Snibston Colliery Park.

All week and until Sunday, locals and visitors are encouraged to explore all that Snibston and the Century Theatre have to offer by booking onto a range of workshops and activities suitable for the whole family.

A special week-long programme of events - put together by Leicestershire County Council - includes an eclectic mix of things to do.

Whether you want to enjoy the Greatest Comeback Show, make and record your own music, get in some exercise with cycling tasters and go-karting, uncover the local mining history or try out tasty food and drink at the Colliery Café, there is something for everyone.

Council leader, Nick Rushton, said: "We're delighted to officially celebrate the opening of Snibston Colliery Park with the wider community of Coalville.

"The site brings together the town's industrial heritage and natural landscape in one vibrant space.

"Many of the planned events are free to attend and we're encouraging everyone to come along, get involved and discover what is available to them on their doorstep."

As part of the £3m regeneration scheme, further work has been completed this year which includes the opening of a 4km mountain bike trail, information boards to supplement walking routes, a new creative studio space and electric vehicle charge points.

Peter Smith, Chair of Snibston Heritage Trust, said: "We're very proud to share the rich ecology and history of the site with visitors, presenting stories of the miners and the mining community through our talks and tours.

"During the site regeneration important artefacts were preserved. We're committed to honouring the important mining heritage roots at Snibston Colliery Park so that future generations can learn about them and enjoy them for years to come."

In addition to the Snibston Heritage Trust talks and tours, workshops and shows will be hosted by Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service, the Century Theatre Academy and local community group, Coalville C.A.N.

Deana Wildgoose, Director of Think FC and lead for Coalville C.A.N, said: "Pulling this showcase together, which highlights what Snibston and the local community has to offer, has really shown us what potential this town has for a memorable day out.

"Throughout the development of the event programme, we've been working closely with organisations and local businesses to put together the workshops and the Mega Walk.

"It's great to see it come together and we're thrilled with the mix of activities people can get involved with exploring and appreciating the local community."
