The Bulls Head at Abbots Oak near Coalville is planning to re-open again next month - after giving away free beer on Sunday morning.

The owners Graham and Lindsay Croft, who run the pub with son James, had permission granted in April for an outside bar serving food and drink.

But they had to get rid of their old stock first which meant the pub giving away beer on Sunday morning to make way for new supplies ahead of re-opening which they hope to do by early July, which proved a great success with their locals.

A message on the Bulls Head Facebook page outlines their plans.

But daughter Kirstie, who also runs the Belper Arms at Newton Burgoland with Graham and Lindsay admitted things were busy on Sunday as people brought containers of all shapes and sizes ready to take away the free beer at the Warren Hills Road, Abbots Oak venue.

She also told Coalville Nub News: "It got crazy on Sunday morning. People were up there queuing from 6am ahead of the 10am opening. Now everyone is looking ahead to hopefully re-opening in July."

The pub's Facebook page message reads: "After being closed since March due to COVID-19 we have been very busy!

"We have had planning and licensing permission passed for a wonderful outside licensed bar servery, including ice-cream and Pizza parlours.

"We were very conscious of social distancing rules, so we have set out to make our extensive one acre beer garden safe for everyone to social distance once we open again, even if the Government keeps the two metre distancing rules in place.

"We will also have 40 outside tables, with most tables seating up to six people with umbrellas and a new beautiful patio area.

"All our seating will be set a minimum of three metres apart and will allow everyone to feel comfortable on those lovely summer days and evenings.

"An extensive menu will also be served at every table inside, but also outside in our extensive gardens weather permitting.

"We have put some pictures of the work that has started for you to see of our new edition outside bar servery and we are hoping it is completed to open to you all on Saturday, July 4th, which is being proposed by Government for pubs with beer gardens, but is subject to final confirmation and the go-ahead from the Government.

"We hope you will like this wonderful addition and our continued vision for the Bulls Head, Abbots Oak, and look forward to welcoming all our customers back new and old hopefully on July 4th."
