Coalville Police issued a Covid fine to a parent on Tuesday night after groups of youths gathered on the Greenhill Estate.

Police say they had received 30 calls about the group who were breaking lockdown rules.

That resulted in a fixed penalty fine being issued to a parent of one of youngsters 'due to their children's behaviour'.

Coalville Police posted a video on the North West Leicestershire Police Facebook page in which PCSO Rebekkah Hales, from the Bardon Hill beat, explained the evening's disturbance.

PCSO Hales said: "Tonight we've been out on the Greenhill Estate due to a number of calls coming in about Covid breaches around the recreation area and the huts opposite the Co-op.

"We've had over 30 calls regarding youths gathering there, so tonight we've been out there.

"Unfortunately, we've had to issue a Covid fixed penalty notice ticket to one of the parents regarding their children's behaviour.

"Just so as you are aware, we are out in force and we are enforcing the Covid regulations, this is serious and we do take it seriously, so please, parents, make sure you know where your children are.

"If they have to go out, it's only for essential reasons and they come straight back home, it is important we control this virus and save lives."

A message was also posted which reads: "It's imperative that parents understand that you will be accountable if your child breaches the rules."
