Car thieves led police on a 80moh car chase through Thringstone yesterday evening.
Officers on patrol in the Charnwood area (Tuesday 13 September) spotted a vehicle which had been reported stolen last week.
A BMW X5 was stolen on Friday (9 September) after the owner advertised it for sale.
Two people made an appointment to view the vehicle in Charnwood Road area of Shepshed.
They then stole the keys from the victim and drove the vehicle away.
Yesterday officers spotted the vehicle on the A512 heading towards Ashby, they attempted to get the driver to stop, but he drove off at speed.
A controlled pursuit of the vehicle was carried out in the Shepshed area towards Thringstone on the A512, with support from the National Police Air Support Unit (NPAS).
The driver was driving dangerously, overtaking towards oncoming traffic causing them to stop, contravening solid white lines around bends for no reason and speeding. The BMW was then driven into Thringstone traveling at speeds in excess of 80mph in a 30mph area.
The vehicle subsequently stopped in Nanpantan Road at the junction of Thirlmere Road in Loughborough.
Three people were arrested in the vehicle and one person ran away but was located hiding in a wheelie bin.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, failing to stop for police officers and dangerous driving.
A 31-year-old man and two women, aged 21 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking without consent (TWOC).
The 21-year-old woman has since been released no further action and the 29-year-old woman has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The two men remain in custody where they are being questioned by detectives.
Detective Inspector Charles Edwards from Charnwood CID, said: "These arrests were as a result of officers spotting the vehicle and recalling that a similar vehicle had been reported stolen. The driver decided not to stop for officers and drove dangerously through a number of areas before stopping the vehicle. At one point he was driving at 100mph in a 60mph area in Loughborough.
"Our enquiries into the theft and the incident last night continue but if anyone has any information that can help us they are urged to get in touch."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 1022 Will Huggins on 101 or HERE, quoting 22*532725.
