North West Leicestershire Police have criticised 'unacceptable' levels of speeding after monitoring drivers in the Bardon area.

Officers carried out speed checks in Reg's Way on Monday.

They recorded 19 offences in one hour, 14 for speeding.

A social media post also illustrates the highest speed clocked in a 30mph area - which was 57mph.

Now more checks are planned in Ellistown and Ashby this week - as well as a return to Reg's Way.

The post reads: "We listened to your suggestions and officers have spent around an hour on Reg's Way, Bardon.

"Officers recorded 19 offences in total, eight of those were reported for speeding, an additional six were stopped and spoken to about their speed.

"These figures are unacceptable, and we will come back to this location.

"Officers will continue to complete spot checks across our policing area in the near future, expect to see us this week in Ashby and Ellistown, however, we could be anywhere."

Police have also reminded drivers why the speed limits are in place.

The post adds: "The statistics state that if someone is hit by a car at 40mph they are 90 per cent likely to be killed."
