Friends of Thringstone won the Leicestershire Live Environmental Heroes Award 2021 last night (Thursday) at an awards presentation at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
The prize has been described as a 'big award for the community as a whole'.
Friends of Thringstone chairman Nita Pearson BEM, said: "We would like to thank everybody who has worked with us since we started in 2005, whether that is by litter picking or planting trees/shrubs/bulbs, by helping us with maintaining the planting that we have done throughout the village, and for supporting us over the years.
"We were one of the first groups who got involved with smart meters and had a smart meter loan scheme for years before anybody else had ever heard of the things, and we continue to do as much for the community as we can.
"This year we have provided a new bench in the village and restored the three on The Green (none of which we own), as well as continuing to plant things and tidy areas.
"One of our current projects is to work on the graveyard at St Andrew's with weeding and tidying it, and then acquiring stones to put down on graves that are old and neglected and needed a bit of TLC. "
