Coalville MP Andrew Bridgen has welcomed the latest relaxation of Coronavirus restrictions which will allow pubs to re-open next month.

Mr Bridgen, the Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, says it will be good news for the area after a 'difficult few months'.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson this week announced pubs, restaurants, cafes and other hospitality venues would be given the go-ahead to re-open, on July 4 as well as cinemas, museums and galleries.

The two-metre rule is being replaced with a 'one-metre-plus' measure, to enable hospitality to increase the number of customers firms can accommodate.

Mr Bridgen said: "I welcome the fact that we are now in a position to allow further relaxation of restrictions from 4th July, including the opening of pubs.

"These measures mark the latest step in a gradual programme of change, which enables people to resume normal life at a steady pace to ensure that infection rate of the virus does not increase again.

"I'm sure businesses in North West Leicestershire are very happy with the news, as it has been a difficult few months.

"Despite this, I also believe that it is vital that we stay alert, and continue to spend most of our time at home.

"I know that the Government will not hesitate to put restrictions back in place if the number of cases and the infection rate starts to increase again."
