Heather man is charged with GBH after early hours fight which left victim hospitalised with 'serious injuries'

A man from Heather, near Coalville, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following an incident in Leicester which left another man in hospital with 'serious injuries'.

A fight happened in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday) in the Belgrave Gate area of the city.

Police received a report at 12.23am that a man had collapsed to the floor.

Emergency services attended the scene.

Leicestershire Police report that the injured man, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he currently remains with serious injuries.

Ben Gray, 23, of Swepstone Road, Heather, has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court today (Friday 23 June).

It is understood that the victim and the man arrested are known to each other.

No weapons are reported to have been used during the incident.

Belgrave Gate was closed while emergency services attended. The area has since been re-opened.

An investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with any information to make contact.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Esther Scott said: "A man is in hospital with serious injuries.

"We are providing full support to his family at this time and are carrying out full enquiries to establish what has happened. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and currently remains in police custody.

"We know a number of people were in the area of Belgrave Gate during the early hours of this morning and are appealing to anyone with any information to contact us.

"If you were in the area, please think back to anything you may have seen or heard or any information you may have which could help us.

"If you have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area and have not yet spoken with us, please also get in touch.

"Please be assured officers remain in the area as we continue to carry out our enquiries. If you have any concerns or any information please do speak with them.
