The Coalville Heritage Society has planned a programme of local talks starting this. month and running through to the Spring.

The programme includes the story of Clutsom and Kemp textile works, the history of T.G. Green pottery, historic coal mining films and the Whitwick Colliery Disaster.

Steve Duckworth, Chairman of the Society said: "This year we have some very interesting talks with a mix of local and regional subjects, including Dr Ian Hambling who is a leading expert on the pottery of T.G. Green's at Swadlincote, manufacturers of the very collectable Cornish Ware.

"Many people have enjoyed the film shows arranged by Keith Pare at the Century Theatre.

"He will be showing historic coal mining films and, to keep with the mining theme, Sue Colledge will tell the story of the Whitwick Colliery Disaster, in its 125th anniversary year.

"The Coalville Heritage Society is also keen to celebrate the work and people at Clutsom and Kemp, which was a major employer in Coalville during the 20th century, but is little mentioned in relation to working life of the town.

"Hopefully this talk will be a start of the re-appraisal of this important textile firm."

The hour-long meetings are on Wednesday nights at the Ebenezer Baptist Chapel on Ashby Road, Coalville LE67 3LF, and start at 7.30.

The first talk is on October 12 and the rest of the programme includes the following talks.

12 October: Old fashioned remedies. From top to toe - Jo Golby

9 November: The Calke Abbey Story - Stephen Hartley

14 December: Christmas social and members contributions
