To mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, groups in North West Leicestershire are being invited to apply for funding to help celebrate the historic milestone in style.

Parish councils, community groups and schools are among those who can apply for North West Leicestershire District Council's (NWLDC) Platinum Jubilee Grant.

Grants of up to £250 are available to help groups pay for things such as entertainment, bunting, party materials, or food and drink over the four-day Bank Holiday Jubilee weekend in June.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 14, and applicants will be informed of the outcome within four weeks.

The celebrations will mark Her Majesty The Queen as becoming the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "We want everyone in North West Leicestershire to come together to celebrate this monumental occasion.

"It will be a great opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate our community, our Queen, her achievements and service.

"It could be a tea party, social event, exhibition or simply anything with a Platinum Jubilee celebratory theme that involves the community.

"We're looking to hear from groups and organisations across the district - find out how to apply over on our website."
