Leicestershire County Councillor Craig Smith says the damaged Bardon Road level crossing is in the process of being repaired.

Motorists driving over the rails in recent weeks have been caught out.

Some vehicles have needed to be repaired and Bardon Aggregates have been processing claims this month as a result.

Cllr Smith called it the 'Bardon Canyon' and said today (Thursday): "As some of you may have noticed today, the Bardon Road Level crossing is being repaired.

"I would advise everyone to use alternative routes as it's causing long delays.

"The good news is that all being well the road should be back open as normal later this afternoon

"I've been advised by Bardon Aggregates that they are processing the claims submitted an a case by case basis.

"Road ramps are being installed as soon as possible, so a low speed limit applies.

"Aggregate industries have informed me contractors in place to complete the work."

In terms of compensation, Cllr Smith has posted details for drivers interested in pursuing a claim.

He said: "If your vehicle has been damaged please use the following email address to register your complaint and seek compensation: [email protected]

"Thank you to Aggregate Industries LTD , Leicestershire County Council lead member for Highways Cllr Ozzy O'Shea for helping me get this sorted."
