Coalville councillor Michael Wyatt has urged local community groups and charities to get involved in the new North West Leicestershire lottery.

Cllr Wyatt, who put forward the community lottery scheme, attended an event at the council on Tuesday for community groups, to go through the benefits of the lottery.

There is no application fee to join the lottery as a good cause, and 60p of each £1 ticket sale from North West Leicestershire Community Lottery will be given to local good causes.

Forty pence will go directly towards charities, voluntary organisations, other not-for-profit groups and 20p will go into a North West Leicestershire community fund, with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Cllr Wyatt said: "The community lottery is about helping community groups and charities in North West Leicestershire to access funds which can help deliver additional projects which have not come to fruition due to the lack of funding available from the usual sources.

"I am extremely keen and excited to see the community lottery make a real difference to our local communities.

"If you've not already got your community group or charity signed up then please get in touch.

"The more that participate the larger the amount of money is available for good causes."

Any good cause or local organisation can join, such as allotment societies; playgroups; churches; foodbanks; charities; choirs; youth groups; cubs/scouts; girls brigades; bowls clubs; sports clubs; tenants associations; parish councils; schools
