Coalville councillor to take Hugglescote homebuilder's 'pollution' issue to Environment Agency

COALVILLE County Councillor Craig Smith says he is to highlight a 'significant pollution' issue at the Jelson development off Standard Hill.
Cllr Smith says the homebuilder is not managing the surface water runoff effectively from their site.
This, as a result, is causing the pollution in the area between Hugglescote and Snibston.
Cllr Smith, representing Coalville North, says he has been in touch with the County Council's Highways department.
He said: "I have contacted Highways several times regarding various breaches by the Jelson Development off Standard Hill.

"However, the latest issue, which has been ongoing for over four weeks, has left me no choice but to escalate my concerns to both the Local Planning Authority and the Environment Agency.
"Jelson are failing to manage surface water runoff effectively from their site.
"This is causing significant pollution to the watercourse on the opposite side of the road.
"They should have a robust silt water management plan in place, along with regular watercourse testing, to ensure they are not causing contamination. Clearly, this is not happening."
Cllr Smith says that, as yet, Jelson have not responded to the complaint.
Jelson have advertised the development as '2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses for sale in Hugglescote'.
They add: "Located in a charming village on the River Sence, these modern new homes in Hugglescote will offer a perfect mix of peace and convenience, making them great for families and commuters looking for a quiet escape."
