District councillor John Geary has taken to steps to try and ensure that football at different levels is still played at Coalville Town's Owen Street ground.

Glyn Rennocks announced on Friday that he was stepping down as club chairman.

This has caused the Ravens' men's senior team's immediate resignation from the Southern Football League.

But Leicestershire County Councillor Amanda Hack - Labour's candidate for North West Leicestershire at July's General Election - says Coalville councillor Geary has already addressed the issue of what will happen to the other teams who play under the club's banner.

Cllr Hack said on social media: "What a huge shock to the community to hear that the Coalville Town senior team has folded.

"Thankfully, Councillor John Geary's been on the case already, speaking with North West Leicestershire District Council colleagues to make sure the youth teams, the women's teams and the inclusive teams are still able to continue to operate.

"I think that's a really important step forward.

"Coalville Town has got such a great community grassroots sense for our young people and women, and we need to make sure that continues.

"So I'll be working as hard as I can with Cllr Geary to get these things resolved as quickly as possible."
