Coalville Councillor Says Covid Jab Is Being Delayed Locally Because Of TV-Friendly Mass Vaccination Centres

By Graham Hill 7th Jan 2021

Coalville councillor Terri Eynon has expressed concern about the delay in getting the coronavirus vaccine out to people in North West Leicestershire.

And she feels there is too much concentration on 'mass vaccination centres' that look good in the media.

The Leicestershire County Councillor says local areas are having to wait for the jab as a result.

Writing on social media, the Labour Party councillor Dr Eynon said: "I am concerned still at the way the vaccine roll out is being handled nationally.

"Leicestershire has the infrastructure for mass vaccination. We do it every year through pharmacies and GP Surgeries.

"The Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine can be handled using the same established teams.

"Media focus on 'mass vaccination centres' in the unused 'Nightingale Hospitals' suggests the Government is intending to make the same expensive mistakes it has made all through this pandemic.

"It paid Serco to 'test and trace' rather than local Public Health Teams. It failed.

"The private sector were paid to build 'Nightingale Hospitals' disconnected from the Intensive Care system run by the NHS. They failed.

"It is now directing vaccine supplies to 'mass vaccination centres' disconnected from the GPs and pharmacies who hold your records and know who is at risk and needs the jab. Why?

"Because 'mass vaccination centres' - however pointless - make good TV. Getting vaccine out to GP practices in North West Leicestershire and letting my colleagues get on with it doesn't.

"And because it has a pathological disregard for the public sector.

"We cannot allow a bunch of politicians more interested in spin than substance to bugger up our vaccination programme.

"Please write to your MP and tell them this is not good enough. We cannot afford to let them fail us again."
