Coalville councillor Michael Wyatt has been in negotiations with County Hall to push for an HGV lorry ban along Bardon road.

He says he is trying to have the ban implemented when the new link road - which has yet to be started - is built.

A petition has also ben set up online to support the HGV ban.

Cllr Wyatt believes now is the time to push for this and said: "I know the new link road is yet to be built, but I feel we need to force County Hall to commit themselves to a lorry ban along Bardon road now.

"So many residents have suffered and continue to suffer from vibrations and noise from large lorries using Bardon road.

"This is a golden opportunity to not only improve the lives of many local residents but also it will help to improve pollution levels which many including myself are very concerned about."

The peitition has been started by resident Angela Black who says: "We the undersigned call upon the Leicestershire County Council to introduce a HGV lorry ban along Bardon Road in Coalville when the new Bardon Relief Road is open.

"Residents have for decades seen a massive increase in traffic along Bardon Road which includes extremely large and noisy HGV lorries.

"Also pollution levels along Bardon Road have for some time become a major concern, which could be affecting the health of the local community."
