Coalville Hospital hopes to resume vaccination clinics soon after it was forced to close temporarily following the discovery of bacteria during water testing.

Traces of Legionella Anisa were detected in the water at the Broom Leys Road-based hospital and maintenance and cleaning work was carried out as a result.

Although the risk of infection was described as being low, patients have been offered appointments at Measham Leisure Centre instead during the closure,

A statement from the Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland CCGs says: "Vaccination clinics at Coalville Hospital were temporarily cancelled and moved to enable essential water maintenance and cleaning work to be completed at the building.

"During routine water testing, traces of a very low risk of Legionella Anisa were detected in the water at Coalville Hospital.

"Although the risk to patients and visitors was very minimal, patients attending for vaccinations were offered an alternative clinic in Measham as a precautionary measure to enable the work to be completed.

"We are in the process of arranging the re-commencement of clinics at Coalville Hospital and will make an announcement when they are due to restart.

"In the meantime clinics continue to be available at Measham via the National Booking Service online or by calling 119."
