Coalville community figure Kirat Sandhu has highlighted the importance of Guru Nanak Dev Jis Gurpurab which is being celebrated today (Friday).

Sikhs and admirers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings around the world have come together to celebrate the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.

This sacred occasion marks the day when Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a beacon of wisdom and compassion, was born in 1469 in Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. His life teachings continue to inspire millions, emphasising equality, selfless service, and devotion to the Divine.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings are timeless, providing guidance for leading a purposeful and harmonious life. On this Gurpurab, devotees honour his legacy by reciting hymns, engaging in prayer, and participating in community service such as langar (a free community kitchen that feeds all, irrespective of background). The day is not only a spiritual celebration but also a reminder of his universal message of peace, love, and humility.
