Coalville CAN is opening its doors to people who want a better understanding of dementia.

It is a condition characterised by a decline in cognitive abilities, affecting memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning capacity, language, and judgment.

It can greatly impact an individual's daily life and those around them.

With an aging population, dementia is seen as becoming increasingly prevalent, making it crucial for communities to come together to support those affected and foster a dementia-friendly society.

The Dementia Friends sessions in Coalville aim to provide participants with a better understanding of what it is like to live with dementia and how they can make a positive difference in the lives of those affected.

By gaining insight into the challenges faced by individuals with dementia, participants can learn how to communicate effectively, offer support, and create inclusive environments.

The free sessions will take place on April 9 at Coalville CAN in Memorial Square , with one session starting at 10am and another at 11.15am.

Each session will last approximately one hour and will be facilitated by Hayleigh Kicks, supported by the Alzheimer's Society.

Ian Wilson, of Coalville CAN, said: "We believe that by increasing awareness and understanding of dementia, we can create more compassionate and supportive communities for those living with the condition.

"These Dementia Friends sessions provide a valuable opportunity for individuals to learn how they can play a role in making a positive difference."

The sessions are open to all members of the community who are interested in learning more about dementia and how they can support those affected. Attendance is free, and no prior knowledge or experience is required.
