The newest team to come from Broomleys Cricket club are taking on a challenge for Great Ormond Street Hospital - 2000 squats in September.

The team is the first ever ladies softball cricket team and in this, its 75th year, there is a sense of excitement around the 30 new members of the club.

"We established the team early on in the season, because it was outdoor we were able to learn new skills throughout lockdown, we already already 30 ladies who come and join us every Monday for a session of laughs alongside quite a supportive and competitive team," said Clare Watson-Spence, the ladies captain.

The team boast an all-shapes, sizes, ability, age, inclusive weekly session.

Claire added: "We have ladies who come just for training through to ones who want to compete in the league."

As a team, they decided to motivate each other to keep moving through their WhatsApp group.

"We are well on our way, collectively, to raising a significant amount of money for the hospital - the money goes to hosting parents next to their extremely poorly children, it means that they don't need to worry about food, accommodation and can focus on the health of their child," added Broomleys player Sabrina Crawly-Clarke.

"We have been recently formed but there is always space for more team mates.

"We play matches indoor and outdoor - it's an all round sport."

If you would like to donate to the fund for the ladies, please follow the link to the funding page on the Broomleys Cricket Club Facebook page - which is where you can also find details of the club's softball indoor cricket for the next six months.
