A Coalville artist has created a set of paintings based on what he sees on his way to and from working a nightshift at Morrison's supermarket.

Tomas Villarosa's work is currently on show at the Coalville CAN building in Memorial Square - in an exhibition entitled Oh You Beauty - and will be there over the next month.

His works are all based on local sights and he wants people to know the beauty of the countryside in and around Coalville.

But he also says the light and colour on show in his paintings come from heading off to work at dusk and emerging in early morning sunlight.

Tomas told Coalville Nub News: "When I leave work at maybe 6am, there's a different light in the sky, you can get reds and pinks.

"You don't see light like that any other time of the day.

"So that is reflected in my paintings, they are areas around Coalville but seen in a different way.

"Everything I see makes me think about how I could use that in a painting.

"The atmosphere is very clear at those times of the day."

Tomas' work is already selling, but he has no plans to give up his job at Morrison's at the Whitwick Retail Park.

He added: "I want people to see what sights we have around Coalville, you don't have to go very far to see them.

"There's lots of things around here.

"I hope people will come here to the gallery and see the colours I see when I'm going to and leaving work."

Tomas' exhibition includes images of Bradgate Park, Sence Valley, Thornton Reservoir, Holly Hayes and Green Lane in Whitwick,

There are also subtle references to the statue outside Coalville Library and the miner's statute close to the level crossing.

Tomas is also well-known for his work at The Engineers Arms pub in Belvoir Road.

Last year, he completed a football-themed mural depicting the England team as well as Leicester City and Coalville Town.

Now he says the space given to artists at Coalville CAN is perfect for staging exhibitions by local creatives.

Tomas, who operates as HeART With Hands on Facebook, added: "This is a big thing for somebody like me.

"Often, I keep my works at home and it's difficult for me to find the space to exhibit them.

"So this is a huge opportunity for us to show the public our work.

"Coalville CAN is inviting people to come here and bring their art.

"I thought there were maybe only a few artists around here, but this space has shown there are quite a few,

"Now maybe it will give others the chance to show their talents."
