Nominations are now open for North West Leicestershire's annual celebration of outstanding contributions to sport and health.

The North West Leicestershire Let's Get Moving Awards, formerly known as the Sport and Health Awards, will take place at Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre on Thursday, November 24.

The night provides a fantastic opportunity for the community to recognise and reward local people, athletes, coaches, volunteers, sports clubs and schools within the district whose achievements and leadership inspire and motivate others.

Last year, Matt Buckley won the Outstanding Contribution award for his volunteering at Sands United FC Ashby, supporting bereaved fathers by ensuring they have a person to talk to.

Ashby Netball Club's dedication to engaging their members during the pandemic helped land them the Club of the Year Award.

The district council says there are lots more people and clubs just like these in North West Leicestershire that deserve recognition too, and now is the time to nominate them.

Nominations can be made HERE in 10 categories for athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs, and schools who have all achieved highly between September 2021 and September 2022.

The deadline for nominations is Thursday 22 September. The categories are:

  • Let's Get Moving School Award
  • Primary School Team of the Year
  • Secondary School Team of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Club of the Year
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
  • Activator of the Year
  • Let's Get Moving for Health
  • Outstanding Contribution

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "Our annual sport and health awards, which is now known as the Let's Get Moving Awards, aims to give the district's sporting stars the recognition that they deserve.

"This is a great opportunity to nominate the teams, sportspeople, coaches and volunteers that help to contribute to our sport and health services.

"We have no doubt that there are lots of talented and devoted unsung heroes in North West Leicestershire that are deserving of praise.

"Now is the time to get nominating!"
