Castle Rock School calls new year parents meeting over 'disappointing' Ofsted report - and promises 'rapid improvements'

By Graham Hill 7th Dec 2021

Castle Rock School in Coalville has called a new year parents' meeting to discuss the findings of the Ofsted judgement - which described it as 'inadequate'.

A damning report criticised a number of aspects of the school and said that pupils often felt 'unsafe' with children 'not getting a good deal'.

You can see that report HERE.

The school has described the report as disappointing - but adds it is taking steps to improve matters in the areas highlighted.

Now the Chief Executive of the Apollo Partnership Trust - which the school is part of - and Executive Secondary Headteacher, Mrs Julia Patrick, says a parents' meeting has been confirmed for next month in the wake of the report.

In a letter to parents, she says that changes and improvements are being made at Castle Rock.

Mrs Patrick says: "I wrote to you earlier this week regarding The Castle Rock School Ofsted judgement.

"I explained that in the New Year, we would be holding a parents meeting to outline actions taken so far and also to

share our roadmap to rapid school improvement. "This meeting will take place on Wednesday 5th January 2022 at 6:00pm, at The Castle Rock School. "I am very pleased that Mrs Kath Kelly, CEO of Lionheart Trust will also be attending the meeting. "The Lionheart Trust is a strong Multi Academy Trust based in Leicestershire with a track record of school improvement, they are working closely with us as we drive changes forward. "I will continue to keep you updated with regular communications. In the meantime, should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school." In a statement which was updated on Monday, school says: "The Castle Rock School has established an action plan and has vowed to support pupils to achieve their best following a 'disappointing' Ofsted inspection." Mrs Patrick, added: "We are working very hard to address the issues raised in the report. "Our school is at the heart of our community and we want to assure parents, pupils, staff and residents that while the inspection report is disappointing, we are committed to driving forward improvements, making the changes needed and providing the best learning environment for our students. "We recognise there have been considerable changes at the school, which have taken place during the pandemic, but accept that work needs to be done. "We have already drafted, and have begun enacting, an action plan to address the points raised." The report did highlight the fact that teachers who recently joined the profession feel well supported and that safeguarding leaders work well together to take action in response to child-protection concerns, with the most vulnerable pupils being well supported. However, inspectors highlighted a number of areas where work needs to be done, including the site safeguarding and the fact that the expectations of pupils' behaviour could be higher. Mrs Patrick added: "We would like to reassure parents that the safety of the site is an absolute priority for us and this features as a big part in our action plan. "We have already started to put measures in place to address punctuality and behaviour, including a new behaviour policy, and hopefully parents and pupils are already seeing a difference." Inspectors visited the Meadow Lane-based school on October 12-14 and deemed the school, previously rated as 'good', as inadequate.
