Bumper crowds and good weather ensured that the Bosworth Medieval Festival weekend was a roaring success when it made a welcome return at the weekend after a two-year absence.

Almost 4,500 visitors, re-enactors and traders came along to the festival, which took place at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre near Sutton Cheney on Saturday and Sunday – making it one of the most successful ever held.

Visitors were queueing to get into the site before the gates opened on both days.

They were treated to a packed programme of fun and entertainment for the whole family, including battle re-enactments, medieval horseback displays, living history encampments to explore, archery, cannon fire demonstrations, medieval falconry, the King's Executioner, Knight School, a storyteller, guided tours and author talks.

There was also a medieval craft market, medieval cooking demonstrations and food tasting, hands-on games and competitions for children and much more.

Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts said: "Bosworth Medieval Festival is always popular and this year's event exceeded all our expectations.

"It was wonderful to see so many people from all over the UK and further afield enjoying themselves. It is one of the highlights of the summer and is a great way to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth, as well as showcasing the rich and diverse history that the site has to offer."

Bosworth Medieval Festival is over for another year, but Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre has a varied programme of events running throughout the year, as well as its award-winning exhibition.
