Belvoir Shopping Centre Development In Coalville Expected To Be Completed By Easter
Work on the redevelopment of the Belvoir Shopping Centre in Coalville is expected to be completed by next Easter.
New owner Gylo, who acquired the centre last year, has announced the first stage of its revitalisation is starting - and that the Covid-19 pandemic will not affect plans.
But the day to day running of the precinct is not expected to be affected while work takes place.
North West Leicestershire District Council has revealed the update on its website.
The Council says plans envisage a major improvement to the feel and attractiveness of the public space with the introduction of new green spaces, improvements to the shop fronts, better connections to the car parking and the creation of a new town square where people can relax while shopping.
Nick Harcus of Lathdale, the development consultants for Gylo said, "We will start the the works in the week commencing 19th October and we expect completion by Easter 2021.
"The operation of the shopping centre will be unaffected while the works take place."
He added: "The new owners acquired the centre with a positive vision for the future and a belief in Coalville as a shopping and leisure destination.
"The COVID-19 epidemic has not changed that. North West Leicestershire District Council shares this vision and this means that a strong private/public partnership is in place which is very good news for the town.
"We look forward to further initiatives and are working hard to promote the town centre."
"The investment going into the Belvoir Centre is firmly based on improving shopper experience and convenience.
"We aim to create a much more attractive environment and attract more footfall which has been improving over recent months despite the coronavirus outbreak.
"These are vital ingredients which will underpin a successful future for the shopping centre and its tenants as well as offering excellent prospects for attracting new retailers and leisure operators."
Councillor Richard Blunt, Leader of North West Leicestershire District Council, said, "This is excellent news for Coalville and another big step towards creating a vastly improved and modern shopping and leisure experience in the town.
"Coalville regeneration is our number one priority and Gylo share our future vision for Coalville. This is exactly the kind of private investment the town needs and we are fully supportive.
"The shopping centre was trapped in the 1970's and these changes will bring it into the 21st century and make it more attractive and inviting destination that meets our modern needs."
