A man was taken to hospital with a fractured skull and bleed on the brain after a fight broke out in Coalville.

Detectives are investigating a report of a fight in the town centre – and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said that, between 2am and 2.30am yesterday (Sunday 28 January), a call was received from the East Midlands Ambulance Service stating a man in his 30s had been found unconscious in Needhams Walk.

He was taken to hospital, where it was established he had suffered a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.

Following further enquiries, a 28-year-old man and 35-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident.

The man remains in custody while the woman has since been released on bail.

PC Tizzie Greene, the investigating officer, said: "As part of our investigation, we know that a fight took place in the area prior to the man being found injured in Needhams Walk.

"While this incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, I believe there were a number of people around who will have seen what happened.

"I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who filmed it or saw who was involved.

"Anything you can tell us could help."
