A fundraiser has been set up for a junior Coalville Town player who was diagnosed with cancer after coming off during a game.

The 13-year-olds was playing for the club's Ravens Under-14s when he asked to be taken off after 15 minutes because of stomach pains.

After being taken to hospital in Leicester, he was rushed the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo an operation.

Neither the boy nor his family have been named on the Go Fund Me page, but organiser Kayleigh Alderton thanked all those who have donated so far and wrote: "Wow, I would like to thank every single one of you who has donated and shared this.

"Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts, in 24 hours we have smashed two of our targets and we are so close to smashing our third.

"We are fundraising for a 13 year old boy who plays for Coalville Town Ravens Under-14s.

"He turned up to play a league football match and asked to be brought off within 15 minutes of starting the game with stomach pain.

"He was then rushed to Leicester Royal Hospital where he was later rushed over to Nottingham Queen's Medical Hospital where he was diagnosed with cancer in numerous places and had to undergo an emergency operation.

"We as a club are trying to raise as much money as we can to try and help the family as much as we can during this difficult time, even if the money just covers travel or accommodation so his family can be with him as much as they can.

"We are grateful to any donation made and we would like to thank you all for your support."

On Tuesday morning, the amount raised stood at £1,255.
