A 36-bed care home planned - as new scheme is proposed for Coalville site which faces demolition
A plan to pull down a number of buildings on a site in Coalville and develop a 36-bed care home in their place has been submitted to the council.
Applicant S. Rigby has asked North West Leicestershire District Council for permission to build the home on land to the north of Ashby Road.
The facility, if approved, will be run by Exemplar Healthcare, which offers specialist nurse care for adults with complex needs, including people with neuro-disabilities, brain injuries, mental ill health, complex dementia, autism and learning disabilities.
The site is currently used for the display and repair of vehicles, and features a number of small brick and portable buildings, which the developer wants to demolish.
Outline planning permission has twice been given before to redevelop the site.
Two previous applications to demolish the existing buildings and add houses to the site were approved, but neither scheme went ahead.
According to the planning application, the home would be three storeys high and provide 36 bedrooms for residents plus a visitors' room.
A 28 space car park be created on the site, said the developer, plus a garden for residents to use, and access to the home would be from the existing Ashby Road entrance to the south of the site.
The developer claimed in the application that the home would create jobs for nurses, carers, management and clerical staff, and would "generate significant benefits to the local community" by redeveloping the site and removing "tired and poorly-designed buildings".
Residents can have their say on the plan by leaving a comment on the council's planning website by Saturday, May 13.
