Buddies Bar owners say they want to move into the former Rex Cinema in Coalville now that they have been told to leave their current site.

The bar claimed earlier this week that it has neither been given the chance to move to a new location, nor has there been any compensation offered, after confirming next Saturday will be its last day of trading.

Buddies Bar is at the entrance to the Belvoir Shopping Centre which is now owned by the Gylo company.

But they will have to leave to make way for a new North West Leicestershire District Council customer service centre.

Now though, the owners have published an online post confirming they are looking at the Rex, which is close to their current address in Belvoir Road.

A photo of the premises in Jackson Street says the building is available to let.

Now the bar owners are calling on the authorities to live up to their promise of finding a new location for the bar.

Buddies post reads: "So, with no help from the council or Gylo on alternative premises, we have been to view this.

"What an amazing building for a new Buddies.

"We know there is funding out there but we are struggling to access it.

"Buddies would be renting the front bit of this iconic local landmark.

"The actual cinema seating areas has fallen into disrepair and is too far gone.

"This is part of Coalville's heritage, and we believe that the councils - both local and county - should get behind this project.

"There has been thousands spent on other projects to regenerate in the town, so why not this one?

"Buddies has not given up on Coalville!"

The Rex building, as well as once being a cinema, was also home to Dunelm furnishings.

Buddies owners claim they have been 'chucked out' to make way for the new council building.
