Ibstock Historical Society's VE-Day events will also see launch of book remembering local servicemen

The Ibstock Historical Society is organising a series of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE-Day.
Part of that will be to launch the Society's new book 'Debt That Can Never Be Repaid', detailing those commemorated on the area's World War Two memorials across 14 villages around Ibstock.
Anyone who has seen the films such as 'Battle of the River Plate', 'Battle of Britain', 'The Longest Day', 'A Bridge Too Far' and 'Heroes of Telemark may be interested to read about those men from Ibstock, Bagworth, Barton in the Beans, Bilston, Carlton, Congerstone, Ellistown, Heather, Nailstone, Newton Burgoland, Odstone, Shackerstone, Snarestone and Swepstone who all played their part in these momentous battles that inspired so many films.
Thanks to sponsorship of the project by the likes of Ibstock Brick, Forterra, Ashwood Law, North West Leicestershire District Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, proceeds from the book sales will be split between the Royal British Legion and the Historical Society.
The opening event is at the Palace Community Centre, in High Street, Ibstock on the May 10, between 10am-2pm.
