Coalville Town said goodbye to 2023 and their development pitch in style on New Year's Eve with a Charity football match in aid of Rainbows.
The weather conditions were not kind and the match would not normally have been played on such a pitch.
But with contractors due to start on installing the new 3G pitch this month, nothing was going to put off the managers and coaches of Coalville's Youth teams from coming together to support the charity.
The teams were managed by Youth Secretary Wayne McDermott and U21s Manager Dave Williamson, with both hoping to win the Charity Cup.
The squads were 18 players each to help the not-so-fit among them, and keep the managers busy.
The match itself saw the only female player, Neve McDermott, open the scoring before first team goalkeeper coach Tomasz Wasylik equalised for team Williamson.
It did not stay level for long as Josh Haliday made it 2-1 for team McDermott before half time.
After a needed 15 minutes break, the players came back out, cheered on by around 200 people who had come along to watch.
Two more goals for team McDermott from Danny Turner and a late one from Jake Ball sealed the victory - but laughter, friendship and charity were the real winners.
Player of the match for team Williamson was Ady Di Gregorio and the team McDermott award went to Danny Turner, both putting in outstanding performances.
Team McDermott Captain Jono Armston was presented with the cup by Chairman Glyn Rennocks - and the club thanked referee Stefan Horley.
The total raised for the charity game was an impressive £1,225 and anyone wishing to donate further can do so via the just giving page HERE.
