Plans to use a property in a Thringstone cul-de-sac as a home for children 'from challenged backgrounds' have been withdrawn following objections from residents.

Lichfield-based Horizon Care & Education made the application to North West Leicestershire County Council in November to use the property at 1, Bishopdale, off Swallowdale.

It said it was for a certificate of lawful proposed use of dwelling house for use by no more than six persons living together as a single household.

But a number of objections were received from neighbours, with some people expressing concerns that the scheme would lead to anti-social behaviour and be unsuitable for the area.

Horizon explained in their application that it provides support and guardianship for young people who have been adversely affected by circumstance and need a safe and secure place to live.

It added: "The staff of Horizon Care & Education have been therapeutically trained and are supported by a fully qualified therapy team.

"At the application site it is proposed to provide a home for three young people between the ages of 8 and 17 from challenged backgrounds demonstrating varying degrees of Emotional Behavioural Disorder (EBD).

"There would be two on-duty members of staff operating on a shift system, providing 24 hour cover.

"Therapeutic support is to be provided as part of the Horizon Care & Education

"There are no alterations proposed to the building that would materially affect its external appearance. There is parking for up to four cars within the site."

But the application has now been withdrawn.

Other objectors pointed out that the small cul-de-sac has mainly older residents and there is the likelihood that 'anti-social and possibly criminal behaviour' would happen.

One even suggested it would attract 'County Lines' activity.

Another objector said that the area is a 'reputed safe area' and these plans would affect that - while fears were also raised about the plans affecting house prices in the close.

But, the council received a letter on Tuesday informing the council that the application had been withdrawn.
